Gender: Female
Birthday: April 17th
Age: 14-16

Used Canons:Manga and Anime
Physical Description (include clothing generally worn):Rei is a teenage girl with long black hair and dark violet eyes. She is said to be 5'3" in height. Unlike the other Senshi's school uniforms, her school uniform was very stylish and classy, and reflected the elite status of her private school. She wore a gray blouse that had a black collar with red stripes on it, a red bow, a black skirt, white socks with a red stripe, and black shoes. When she became a high school student in Stars, the red bow on her shirt became black.
Another outfit she is often seen wearing is her red and white miko robes. These sported a white kimono top with red bottoms.
Rei can also be seen in jeans and a nice top. Sometime she'll wear a flowing loose skirt and matching top.Rei is fond of the color red and can often be seen wearing it. She favors clothes that are easy to move it and comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Usually if she's not in her school uniform she's in her mike robes.
Forms of Rei Princess Mars As Princess Mars she wore a red strap dress that went past her feet, and she wore a red choker that was tied into a ribbon at the back. She wore a necklace and small red stud earrings. She also wore high-heeled shoes with straps that were also red. The symbol of Mars was present on her forehead.
Sailor Mars, Super Sailor Mars and Eternal Sailor MarsSailor Mars- As Sailor Mars, she wore the standard Senshi fuku and the dominant color of the fuku was red while the accent color was purple. Her earrings, collar, center of the front bow, skirt, back bow, the gem on her tiara, the elbow fittings of her gloves, choker, and her shoes/heels were red, and her front bow was purple. Her collar had one stripe and her earrings were five pointed dangling red stars.
Super Sailor Mars- When she received the "Super" upgrade, her choker had a five-pointed golden star on it, the bottom of her sleeves became transparent, the center of her front bow became a heart, and her back bow was enlarged and lengthened.
Eternal Sailor Mars- Rei receives this form in the Stars arc. Her fuku almost appears to be similar to Eternal Sailor Moon's fuku, minus the wings. However, it's red and has lighter red bubble-like sleeves with red bands. Her choker is a "V" shape with a gold star on it. Her chest bow remains purple, but her back bow is a lighter shade of red. The belt is two shades of red ribbons with a star in front. Her gloves are now up to her forearms. Her skirt has two shades of red layered together. She no longer wears the high heels from both her first and super form; she now wears white boots topped with a "V" shape and a star in the center. This form is only seen in the manga.
Personality: In the anime, Rei Hino was a hot blooded, strong-willed, and somewhat bossy yet well-meaning girl who wanted to be everything from a globe-trotting business woman to musical idol, as well as have a boyfriend (Rei in the Sailor Moon musicals was portrayed this way as well). Sailor Mars did have another side in the anime; her loyalty to Sailor Moon was extremely strong, and her determination and sense of justice were admirable. She seemed to show her affection to the people she cares the most about in odd ways, such as her teasing Usagi or joking with Yuuichirou. Though Rei sometimes bickered with Usagi, she clearly cared about her and valued her friendship very much, and often seemed closer to her than the other Senshi. (In the Stars season, she was the first person whom Usagi told that Mamoru had not contacted her, and Rei was so distraught that she wondered out loud why Usagi had to suffer so much.)
In the manga, Rei Hino was a stoic, serious individual who did not involve herself with men (due in part to her estrangement from her politician father). She displayed what could be described as the Japanese ideal for women: she was reserved, beautiful, and intelligent. Rei's manga image was more fitting with her role as a miko than her anime personality.
Any Unique Abilities/Skills: Rei is one of few Sailor Moon characters who is able to use special powers in her civilian form. These are mainly the result of her role as a miko, which gives her heightened spirituality as well as certain resources. In addition to some psychic talent, including occasional unprompted premonitions, Rei is able to do fire readings and to dispel evil spirits. She does the latter by performing Kuji-Goshin-Ho, a ritual which consists of chanting nine words of power (rin, pyou, tou, sha, kai, jin, retsu, zai, zen) while making relevant hand signs. She then shouts "Akuryō Taisan!", meaning "Evil spirits, begone!" and throws one or multiple ofuda scrolls. She commonly uses this attack while in her Sailor Mars form as well as when she is in her civilian form. Rei also posses ESP to the ability to read flames (fire reading), as well as using ofuda as a weapon. Her ESP often led her to have premonitions about upcoming events, and she had a stronger "sixth sense" than most of the other Senshi.
History: She works as a miko or shrine maiden at the Hikawa Shrine , and is shown to have an affinity with two crows who live there. It is revealed in the manga that as a child, they "told" her that their names are Phobos and Deimos (the same as Mars' two moons). In the manga, she is portrayed as calm, serious, and practical, distrusting most men and discouraging her friends from developing romantic relationships. In the other adaptations, though, her personality is quite different.
In the anime, Rei is fiery, boy-crazy, practical and ambitious, longing to one day become a singer, model, and voice actress envisioning herself as ultimately getting married. She is also greatly interested in pop culture and shows musical talent of her own, including playing the piano and guitar, singing, and composing all the songs for a school festival. Rei and Usagi have a very tempestuous relationship, and argue frequently. Though these arguments are usually petty, early in the series Rei tries to take Usagi's role as Senshi Leader. Her loyalty to Usagi becomes much stronger later in the series, and affection replaces the earlier resentment. Although Rei becomes calmer as the series progresses, she remains somewhat more of a typical teenager than her manga counterpart. Anime Rei also tends to engage in long periods of sticking her tongue out at Usagi (who returns the favor), as a kind of running gag in their arguments.
Rei goes to a different school from the other girls, namely T*A (possibly referring to Thomas Aquinas) Private Girls School, a Catholic institution run by nuns. She herself is a practitioner of Shinto, living and working at Hikawa Shrine with her grandfather, its head priest. Her mother died when Rei was very young; her father is a famous politician who cares more about his job than about her (though in the live-action version he still tries to be involved in her life), and who only visits Rei on her birthday. She carries a certain amount of bitterness toward him.
Other characters frequently comment on Rei's beauty and elegance—in her first appearance, these traits even lead Luna to suspect that she could be the Princess they have been searching for. However, her strange psychic talents have caused some to be afraid of her, and her distant nature makes her unreceptive to close friendship. Rei does treasure the friends she has, which consist entirely of the other Senshi, and although she sometimes adopts an aloof, big-sisterly attitude around them, this façade is frequently broken by her own enthusiasm, her genuine affection for all of them, and her sharp tongue.
Because of the lack of respectable males in her life, the manga and live-action Rei harbors a generally low opinion of all men. She considers them emotionally weak and untrustworthy and seems genuinely uninterested in romance. The one exception is in a manga side-story centering around her, Casablanca Memories, which tells of Rei's friendship with her father's young secretary, Kaidou. He had been kind to her for her entire life and, in the story, she fancies herself in love with him. She is shocked when he suddenly announces his engagement to another girl and his decision to become a politician, despite having once said that he didn't like what had happened to Rei's family as a result of her father's work. Proof of her feelings are further cemented when she moves to kiss Kaidou, asking why, if he wanted to marry into the profession, didn't he choose to marry her due to her father's political influence. In the manga, this is the only potential romance in her life; in the live-action series, nothing of the sort is ever shown, as Rei is pointedly uninterested in boys. In the anime, however, she "dates" Mamoru Chiba in the first season (though he thinks they're just friends), and occasionally seems open to a relationship with Yūichirō, her grandfather's pupil. In one episode, on the brink of death, she states that she wishes she had kissed Yūichirō before leaving.
Late in the manga, members of the Dead Moon Circus harass Rei with a reflection of her young self, which mocks her for her friendships and her dream of being a priestess. The reflection tells her that the only way for her to be happy is to try her luck with numerous men until she ends up married to someone rich. Rei is able to defeat this illusion, and in the process gains her Sailor Crystal along with the memory that, long ago, she had in fact made a vow of chastity to Princess Serenity. After this realization, she is never again shown having any doubts about her lack of interest in romance. This is never mentioned in the other series, although in the equivalent anime episode she expresses an intention to remain single forever.
Rei's lifelong dream is to become the head priestess at Hikawa Shrine, and much of her life is influenced by spirituality, particularly in the manga. Meditation is given as her strong point, and she enjoys fortune-telling as a hobby. The elegance of her character is further underscored by the contrast between her favorite subject, ancient writing, and her least favorite, modern society.[9] She also belongs to the Archery club at school, which later provides the context for her most powerful weapon, the Mars Arrow. Rei is also skilled in martial arts and a talented skier in the anime. As for more general tastes Rei's favorite foods are given as fugu, a type of blowfish which is both highly toxic and considered a delicacy in Japan, and Thai food. Other favorite things include the colors red and black, the flower white Casablancas, the gemstone ruby, little lizards, and pandas and dislikes include canned asparagus, men in general, and television. The manga states that she does enjoy Devilman.
Just as Rei is more fiery in the anime than in the manga, she is changed again in the dubbed series. Although shots of her actually slapping Usagi are removed, remarks about her childishness and unreliability are more frequent and often harsher—there appears to be no loyalty, at first. In episode 43 of the original, Sailor Mars is briefly entrusted with the Moon Stick, which she explains to the others as proof that she and Sailor Moon don't hate each other. In the dubbed equivalent, she says that Sailor Moon left it at her house by accident, and that she took it because she believes she would make a better leader. Other episodes add dialogue in which "Raye" tells people off or is rude to them, where in the original she is only mildly frustrated.
Though Rei and Usagi's arguments are a constant in the anime series, it is shown several times that they are extremely close friends and care deeply for each other. When Sailor Jupiter is introduced, she asks if the two are sisters, because she can tell they are close. Rei is the last Senshi to die in the battle against the DD Girls in the first season's finale, giving her life for Usagi. In Sailor Moon R: The Movie, Rei is hysterical when Usagi gives her own life for her friends. She is the only member of the Guardian Senshi to not use honorifics when shouting Usagi's name, something that is reserved for people who are extremely close, during the use of the Silver Crystal in the same movie. When Sailor Galaxia kills all the Guardian Senshi in Sailor Stars, it is Sailor Mars to whom Sailor Moon immediately rushes to (although she is devastated over the others being struck down as well). In the manga, Rei is Usagi's confidante and the first one she goes to with problems, and vice versa.
After Rei and Usagi were transported into another world with victims of the kidnappings, Luna sent Ami to help Usagi. Rei was caught by Jadeite, and Usagi transformed into Sailor Moon and used Moon Frisbee, freeing Rei and restraining Jadeite. Luna orders Sailor Mercury to throw the extra pen she had given her earlier. As the pen passes by Rei, the symbol of Mars appears on her forehead, transforming her into Sailor Mars. She calls Phobos and Deimos, and performs Akuryo Taisan, turning Jadeite into dust. The Sailor Senshi are transported, along with the other victims of the kidnappings. Luna and Sailor Moon claim they are happy that they have found the third Senshi.

Weapons or Magical Items: Transformation Pens were the first transformation devices that the Inner Senshi (excluding Sailor Moon) used in both the manga and anime. The term "transformation pen" can also be used to refer to any other pen-type transformation devices. In the anime, all the Inner Senshi had identical transformation pens (except for the color and sign), but in the manga Sailor Venus had a different pen that came from her Sailor V times. In the manga, the Sailor Senshi sacreficed their pens, in order to awaken Sailor Moon, who was within Metallia at the time. These pens were eventually replaced by the Star Power Sticks.
Star Power Sticks were the second transformation items the Sailor Senshi, save for Usagi, used to transform that were provided to them by Luna. In the manga, the Inner Senshi were given the Star Power Sticks after they destroyed their transformation pens in order to help Sailor Moon defeat Metalia.
Mars Crystal was the Sailor Crystal that Rei Hino used to transform into Super Sailor Mars in the manga. It was given to her by Phobos and Deimos.
The Ofuda, in the Japanese culture, are charms, wards, or scriptures are said to bear good luck, and are usually sold in Shinto shrines or temples. Ofudas, in the Sailor Moon incarnations, were used by Rei Hino, or when she was Sailor Mars, to freeze her enemies with Akuryo Taisan. The ofuda is also a key part in her attack, Fire Soul Bird. It was used once by Minako Aino/Sailor Venus in a manga side story in the manga only. The kanji written on the ofuda ("Akuryo Taisan") can be translated as "Evil Spirit, Disperse." In the re-released English translation of the manga, it is translated as "Evil Spirit, be exorcized".
The Mars Arrow was an item which Sailor Mars used to perform Mars Flame Sniper in the manga. Mars received this weapon from her twin female guardians, Phobos and Deimos.
The Communicators were special devices used by the Sailor Senshi to keep in touch with each other. In the manga, the senshi wear wristwatch-type communication devices which allow them to speak with each other. Two sets appeared throughout the series. The first set appeared in Act 03, Volume 01, and came directly from the Sailor V game. The second set were given to them after Chibiusa's appearance.
In the anime, the communication device is a small, flat, computer-like object that is used by the senshi in the first season in order to communicate with each other. This item first appears in episode 017.
In episode 62 of the R season, the Senshi received new communicators along with their Star Power Sticks. These new communicators resembled wrist watches, and the face resembled Sailor Moon's Crystal Star. In the S season, Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune also had similar communicators.
Guardian:Phobos and Deimos-It is revealed later in the manga that Phobos and Deimos are actually maidens from Planet Coronis sent to protect Princess Mars. They take the form of crows during the present time and were near Rei when she first came to the shrine as a child, supposedly "telling" her their names. Phobos and Deimos reveal their true forms when delivering the Mars Crystal to her and refer to her using her princess title.

It was a quite day at the temple and Rei was glad for it. She had been studying so hard over the last few days that she didn't feel up to much, but she still had to help out around the temple. She didn't mind after all she loved it, but today she was tired and really wanted to relax in a bath for a while. Turning her face to the sky, she sighed. She thought to the future and wondered if it really mattered how she did in school. After all wasn't she one of the chosen to protect the new kingdom of Crystal Tokyo? Would she really need math to do that? But then she won't always have to fight and defend the kingdom, so she would need something to do. She expected to take over care of the temple after her grandpa. She wanted other things yes, but she always knew that somehow she would end up here at the temple and that thought didn't bother her as much as it used to. She was ready for that future.
turning again she started sweeping the grounds again, hoping that things picked up a little, other wise it would be boring, till night fall. Maybe she would call the girls over for ice cream and a study session. Usagi would love that. Deimos landed near by and cawed at her. "Hello there Deimos." She cooed at the black bird. "Are you hungry? Is that why your being loud?" She asked and giggled and she reached into the bad of bird seed she always had on her and scattered some on the ground for the bird. Smiling she went back to her work. Yeah, she'd call the girls just as soon as she was done. Maybe they could even stay over, it'd been to long since they all got together and were just girls. "A girls' night is just what I need."
